Suzuki Motorcycle India has been compelled to cease production at its manufacturing plants following a cyber-attack on its operations. The interruption in production began on Saturday, May 10, and it is estimated that the company has incurred a loss of over 20,000 vehicles during this period.

In response to the situation, Suzuki Motorcycle informed its ecosystem that its annual supplier conference, which was scheduled for the following week, has been postponed due to an “unprecedented business requirement.”

A spokesperson from Suzuki Motorcycle India stated, “We are aware of the incident and have promptly reported the same to the concerned Government department. The matter is currently under investigation, and for security purposes, we are unable to provide further details at this point in time.”

The spokesperson did not disclose the source of the cyber-attack or specify when production will resume. However, sources indicate that operations are expected to resume within the next few days, no later than early next week.

Suzuki Motorcycle India is the country’s fifth-largest two-wheeler manufacturer, with a production volume close to a million units in FY23. India serves as the largest market for the company outside of Japan and is a significant export hub for Suzuki Motor Japan, with 20% of its Indian output catering to global markets.

India accounted for 50% of Suzuki Motor Corporation’s global output and was one of the fastest-growing markets in the previous financial year. The company witnessed a growth of over 220,000 units in global output in FY23, with almost 85% of the incremental volumes coming from India.

In the highly competitive Indian two-wheeler market, Suzuki Motorcycle holds a market share of approximately 5%. Its Burgman Street and Access scooters have gained significant popularity, accounting for over 90% of the company’s total output in FY23. Additionally, Suzuki Motorcycle enjoys a market share of 14% in the scooter segment.

Suzuki Motor has projected a global output growth of 4.4% in FY24, with India expected to continue driving global sales.
