Max Verstappen to review pit stop that cost him victory in Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Max Verstappen plans to investigate the pit stop that led to his loss in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The two-time World Champion had a strong start to the race, overtaking Charles Leclerc after the DRS was enabled on lap three.
However, when Nyck de Vries hit the Turn 5 apex wall and stopped on track, yellow flags were raised but no Safety Car was deployed as de Vries appeared to be preparing to reverse his car. Verstappen then pitted to switch his medium tyres for hards, only for the Safety Car to be called after he had exited the pit lane.

This put him behind Sergio Perez and Leclerc, who were able to pit under Safety Car conditions and lose less time due to the mandatory lap time delta. Team Principal Christian Horner explained that the pit wall had no way of knowing about de Vries’ damage, but Verstappen still plans to conduct an internal review.
“I could see the car stopping but you see it on the screen, you can not look into every detail on whether every wheel is connected to the car properly,” explained Verstappen, speaking to media.
“Of course, the team has a bit more overview to that but we will look into that to see if there was anything we could have done differently.
“I don’t know when the exact call came to pit so it is a bit difficult to say at the moment.”
