Kia Sonet facelift set to debut globally with updated design and features
The Kia Sonet, a popular compact SUV, is set to undergo a mid-life cycle makeover this year, according to reports. Recently, spy images of the Sonet facelift being tested in South Korea have surfaced, providing a sneak peek into the upcoming changes. Expected to be launched globally by mid-2024, the Kia Sonet facelift is anticipated to come with a range of new features, including revamped exterior elements and tweaked internals.
In the spy images, the Kia Sonet facelift appears to draw design inspiration from the Kia EV9 and Kia EV5 Concept models. The sleek and horizontal headlamp design reminiscent of the current model is likely to be retained, but with the addition of a drop-down element connecting the fog lamps. The facelifted version may also feature LED Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs) and a new front bumper with a large mesh pattern, enhancing its visual appeal.
The compact SUV is expected to sport dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels, while the rear could showcase a vertically oriented tail-lamp design connected by an LED light bar. Inside the cabin, the Kia Sonet facelift is likely to boast an updated dashboard design with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Ventilated seats, a sunroof, a wireless charger, and ambient lighting support could also be part of the package. To enhance the audio experience, the SUV may feature a premium Bose sound system.
In terms of powertrain options, the Kia Sonet facelift is expected to offer two petrol engine variants: a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering 118 bhp and a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated model generating 81 bhp. Additionally, a 1.5-litre diesel engine may be available as well. The recent introduction of RDE- and E20 fuel-compliant engines to the Sonet lineup suggests that the facelifted model might also incorporate these features.
Prior to the launch of the Sonet facelift, Kia is anticipated to introduce the Kia Seltos facelift in July of this year. The refreshed Sonet will compete with other compact SUVs in the market, including the Hyundai Venue, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV300.
As Kia gears up to unveil the Sonet facelift with its updated design and feature enhancements, anticipation among SUV enthusiasts continues to grow. With its competitive offerings, Kia aims to strengthen its position in the compact SUV segment and cater to the evolving needs of customers worldwide.
