Elon Musk provides update on second-generation Tesla Roadster
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, recently shared an update on the progress of the highly anticipated second-generation Tesla Roadster. During a Twitter Spaces session with Ford CEO Jim Farley, Musk confirmed that the final design and engineering of the iconic electric vehicle will be completed by the end of this year. He further stated that the Roadster is expected to be ready for volume production by late 2024.
However, Musk emphasized that Tesla’s current focus is not primarily on the sports car. He mentioned that the Roadster is considered an additional luxury feature and is not the company’s main priority at the moment. Instead, Tesla is directing its attention towards refining the Cybertruck and developing its upcoming affordable model, rumored to be called the Model 2.
Although Elon Musk’s announcement regarding the production timeline of the second-generation Roadster is exciting, there is skepticism surrounding the reliability of these estimates. Tesla has a history of overpromising and underdelivering when it comes to vehicle timelines, which has led many to approach these announcements with caution. While enthusiasts eagerly await the Roadster’s arrival, the company’s track record raises doubts about the exact timeline.
Reports suggest that Tesla has already received $50,000 deposits from numerous potential buyers who have reserved the second-generation Roadster. Interestingly, the automaker is still accepting bookings for the highly anticipated vehicle. However, Tesla has faced criticism for its lack of communication regarding the Roadster. In response, Elon Musk jokingly acknowledged that they are testing the patience of reservation holders. Nevertheless, he did provide some details about the plans for the Roadster during the session.
As Tesla continues to make progress on the second-generation Roadster, enthusiasts and potential buyers eagerly await further updates. The Roadster holds significant promise as a high-performance electric sports car, and its success could further solidify Tesla’s position as a leading innovator in the electric vehicle market.
