MG Motor India Launches Smallest Electric Car, MG Comet EV, at Rs. 7.98 Lakh: Specs, Features, and More

MG Motor India, a subsidiary of Chinese automotive manufacturer SAIC Motor Corporation Limited, has launched the country’s smallest electric car, the MG Comet EV. The car has been designed to cater to the needs of those who are looking for a compact and efficient electric car for daily commuting.

Price –

The introductory price of the MG Comet EV starts at Rs. 7.98 Lakh (on average, ex-showroom) for its sole variant. The base model of the electric version is also priced at Rs. 7.98 Lakh, while the automatic version of the Comet EV is available at the same starting price.

Launch Date and Expected Delivery News:

The MG Comet EV has arrived at local dealerships across the country, and interested buyers can test drive the all-electric vehicle from dealership stores. The bookings of the EV are set to begin on May 15 in the country. The car’s small size makes it ideal for driving in crowded city streets, while its efficient electric powertrain ensures that it is eco-friendly and cost-effective to run.

The MG Comet EV measures under three meters in length, 1,640 mm in height, and 1,505 mm in width, and rides on 12-inch steel wheels. Its funky design makes it look like a shrunken little hatchback, with a vertical rear window that looks cool. On the inside, the car boasts modern interiors with adequate feel-good features, fantastic visibility, and decent quality. The two 10.25-inch screens provide ample infotainment and driver information, with support for third-party apps, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.

Drive Range –

The car’s core component is a 17.3 kWh battery pack, and MG claims that it can achieve a range of 230 km. The vehicle offers three drive modes, namely Eco, Normal, and Sport. The Comet EV can reach a maximum speed of 100 kmph, thanks to its rear-mounted single motor that delivers a peak power output of 41 hp and maximum torque of 110 Nm. Its near-silent propulsion and easy-to-drive nature make it a pleasure to drive, with quick overtaking capabilities.

Why you should buy MG Comet EV –

One of the biggest advantages of the MG Comet EV is its compact size, which makes it easy to drive on busy streets and ideal for city/town folk. Its ride quality makes light work of potholes and rumbler strips, thanks to ample ground clearance. The car’s efficient electric powertrain ensures that it is eco-friendly and cost-effective to run, with lower maintenance costs than a traditional petrol or diesel car.

Why should you avoid it –

The MG Comet EV is a compact car that’s best suited for city dwellers who prefer a smaller, easy-to-maneuver vehicle. However, the car’s usability is restricted due to its compact size, making it less than ideal for longer journeys or trips with multiple passengers. In addition, the car’s seating lacks adequate thigh support, which can be uncomfortable for longer periods of driving. Furthermore, the absence of faster charging options can restrict usage, as drivers will need to plan their journeys around the time it takes to charge the battery.
