MG Motor is set to make its entry into the Indian electric car market with the launch of the MG Air EV, a compact hatchback aimed at the entry-level segment. The MG Air EV, which is based on the MG Air EV (codenamed E230) showcased in Indonesia, will feature a range of unique design elements and advanced features to attract customers.
One of the standout features of the MG Air EV is its distinctive exterior styling. The car sports a full-width light bar that extends to connect the rear-view mirrors, giving it a sleek and modern look. The charging port is cleverly hidden under the MG logo, adding to the overall clean design. Trapezoidal headlamps, rectangular fog lamps, and body-colored bumpers further enhance the car’s aesthetics.
Inside, the MG Air EV offers a spacious and comfortable cabin. The rear passengers will appreciate the large, vertically mounted side windows that provide an open and airy feel. The interior features black upholstery with red and white stitching, giving it a sporty and premium look. Key features include a 10.25-inch infotainment system, a sunroof, heated seats, and a seven-inch digital driver’s display. The car is also expected to come with standard features such as climate control, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, and a Harman audio system.

Powering the MG Air EV is a 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine that produces 120 horsepower and 170 Nm of torque. While the exact details about the range and powertrain are yet to be revealed, the MG Air EV is expected to offer a real-world range of around 150 km. To adapt to the Indian conditions, the car will undergo enhancements in key systems such as the battery thermal management system and air conditioning.
In terms of safety, the MG Air EV is likely to come equipped with ABS with EBD, six airbags, rain-sensing wipers, rear parking sensors, and a rear camera. The car will also feature an alarm and immobilizer, electronic stability control, hill-start assistance, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
MG is aiming to launch the Air EV in India by September 2023. The car is expected to be priced between Rs. 10.00 and 15.00 lakh, making it an attractive option for customers looking for an affordable electric vehicle. The MG Air EV will be a significant addition to the Indian electric car market, offering a compact, stylish, and technologically advanced option for eco-conscious consumers.
